Competition rules

This document governs the rules and conditions of the Hack Kosice 2024 competition (hereinafter referred to as “competition”) on the website of the publisher of the Hack Slovakia competition (hereinafter referred to as “statute”).

II. Purpose and subject of the competition

  1. The purpose of the competition is to provide an opportunity for those interested in IT to test their skills, learn something new and motivate people to take a deeper interest in information technology.

  2. The subject of the competition is the design and implementation of software projects in teams within a time limit (24 hours), which will be evaluated by a jury at the end of the competition.

Time and place of the competition

  1. The competition starts on April 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. (the time is given in the Europe/Bratislava time zone)

  2. The competition ends on April 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.

  3. The venue of the competition is: Kunsthalle, Rumanova 1, Košice 040 01, Slovakia

IV. Conditions for participation in the competition

  1. Any natural person who was born on or before April 5, 2008 and meets all the conditions set forth in this statute (hereinafter also referred to as “competitors”) can participate in the competition.

  2. A competitor who is in an employment relationship or in another relationship similar to an employment relationship with the announcer of the competition may not participate in the competition.

  3. The contestant participates in the contest and is included in the list of contestants if he registers for the contest in the manner indicated on the contest page (https://hackkosice.com ).

  4. The contestant who interferes with the mechanism of the competition in order to obtain a prize in such a way, without which he would not have won the prize, or without which he could not participate in the competition, is excluded from the competition.

  5. If a person who does not meet any of the conditions in terms of the statute participates in the competition, he is automatically excluded from the competition and has no right to a prize.

  6. If no person participates in the competition or none of the contestants meets the conditions for participation in the competition in accordance with the statute, no person will win the prize.

V. The course of the competition

  1. The competition takes place within the specified time frame. During its course, the contestants have the opportunity to work on the chosen topic.

  2. Only team members or people designated by the organizers of the competition can participate in the solution of the project. A team can have a maximum of 4 members.

  3. Teams will submit their solutions through the electronic system at the end of the set time. A link to this system will be accessible on the contest page and will be sent to contestants during the contest.

  4. After the handing over, the projects will be evaluated, the results of which will be announced on the day of the end of the competition.

    • a. Project evaluation takes place in two rounds:

      • i. The first round will take place in the form of a presentation, each team will receive information about when they should present their project at least half an hour after submitting their projects.

          1. Each team will be evaluated by at least two separate evaluation groups consisting of one or more people
          1. 4 categories are evaluated:
            Originality - How innovative, creative and unique is the solution? Expected Impact - Does the project have the potential to significantly impact the lives of many individuals? Are target users likely to actually use your proposed solution? Difficulty of implementation – How technically sophisticated, advanced and elegant is your solution? What part of your idea did you manage to implement during the hackathon? Soft skills – How effective and engaging is the project presented during the final evaluation? How smoothly can your team work together?
      • ii. The 4-6 best projects will participate in the second round, which will present their final solution on stage in front of all participants.

          1. From this selection of the best projects, a pre-selected jury, composed of the organizers of the competition and external people, will choose the placement of the projects in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
    • b. After the evaluation of the best projects, the award ceremony will take place.

VI. Prizes in the competition, the amount of prizes and their taxation

  1. By fulfilling the conditions of the competition, it is possible to win the following prizes:

    • prize for 1st place (hereinafter referred to as “main prize”),

    • prize for 2nd place (hereinafter referred to as “prize no. 2”),

    • prize for 3rd place (hereinafter referred to as “prize no. 3”),

    • sponsorship prizes (hereinafter referred to as “sponsorship prizes”),

    • prize for the best technical design.

  2. The value of the main prize is EUR 300 (in words: three hundred EUR) for each team member.

  3. Value of prize no. 2 is EUR 200 (in words: two hundred euros) for each team member.

  4. Value of prize no. 3 is EUR 100 (in words: one hundred euros) for each team member.

  5. Sponsorship prizes are selected exclusively by the competition partners without the intervention of the competition announcer.

  6. Prizes for the best technical solution are packages of advertising items with the brand of the announcer of the competition.

  7. The organizer reserves the right to change the amount, value or content of prizes, for example, if there is a change in the number of sponsors.

  8. In case of less than the maximum number of members in the team, the number of prizes corresponding to the number of members in the team will be awarded.

  9. Pursuant to the provisions of Act no. 595/2003 Coll. on income tax as amended monetary and non-monetary winnings in the amount of over 350.00 EUR (in words: three hundred and fifty EUR) is subject to income tax and is subject to a contribution to public health insurance within the meaning of Act No. 580/2004 Coll. on health insurance as amended. The Income Tax Act determines which winnings and prizes are fully exempt from tax (eg received winnings up to 350 euros), which are partially exempt from tax (eg if the win exceeds 350 euros, the tax base will include its value above 350 euros), as well as the method of taxation and who is responsible for taxation – whether the winner or the announcer of the competition.

VII. Awards

  1. The main prize, prize no. 2 and prize no. 3 are won by the teams that were selected by the evaluation committee as the 3 best projects.

  2. The prize for the best technical performance will be won by the team selected by the evaluation committee.

  3. The sponsoring prize has the right to be awarded by the corresponding sponsor of the competition based on its own assessment of the contestants’ projects.

  4. Awarding of competing teams that have fulfilled all the conditions of participation in the competition in terms of the statute and win prizes - main prize, prize no. 2 or price no. 3. (hereinafter referred to as “winners”) will take place on the day of the end of the competition in front of all participants.

  5. One winner of the main prize, one winner of prize no. 2 and one prize winner no. 3. Each team will be ranked only once.

  6. In the event that the awarded winners do not meet any of the conditions established by this statute, the next competitor in the ranking is considered a substitute.

  7. In the event that the winner does not agree to hand over the prize, refuses the prize or does not fulfil any of the conditions in terms of this statute, the winner’s right to win will cease and the prize will be offered to a substitute. If even the drawn substitute does not agree to hand over the prize, refuses the prize or does not fulfil any of the conditions in terms of this statute, the prize will be forfeited to the contest announcer.

  8. The contestant has no legal claim to the prize and it is not possible to enforce it through a court of law.

VIII. Final provisions

  1. By participating in the competition, the competitor expresses his agreement with these statutes. If a person does not agree with any condition or point in this statute, he may not participate in the competition.

  2. The announcer of the competition reserves the right to change the status or cancel the competition at any time, especially in the event that he would be in danger of being harmed. The change of status or cancellation of the contest will be published by the announcer on its website or on the Facebook page of the announcer of the contest.

  3. In case of any ambiguities regarding the conditions of the competition or the provisions of the statute, the announcer of the competition reserves the right to explain these ambiguities and possibly change the statute in accordance with point 1 of this article of the statute.

  4. The announcer of the competition is not responsible for any damages incurred by winners or substitutes in connection with the received prizes.
